The Only Review That Matters- Methane

Updated on July 12, 2014

Methane

After creating a twitter page for myself, I discovered very quickly that I already had several followers. One of said followers was a band called Methane.

I had never heard of them before so I decided to look more into it. From reading their twitter page, they are a heavy metal band from Sweden, but based on these guys appearance you would never know it. When it comes to music, I'm very old school. I've listened to hard rock and heavy metal bands like AC/DC, Megadeth, and early Guns n Roses. I feel all this pop, bubblegum, rap music today is pretentious, garbage and want nothing of it. It takes a lot for me to get into a new band that comes along, but since Methane claims to be a heavy metal group, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I found they had a YouTube page and decided to listen to their most viewed songs, Hang Me High and Scars and Bars. So without further ado, here's my review.

What I liked- It's an obvious metal sound. From the dual guitars, pounding bass, and heavy drums, these songs exemplify metal. The sound of the band is almost a mix of Pantera and Slayer with there own influences mixed in. Lead singer Tim Scott's voice is perfect for this blend of metal. The song Scars and Bars has the potential to reach the status of a heavy metal anthem by incorporating a great heavy metal rhythm, and lyrics head-bangers will want to chant along with.

What I didn't- The biggest problem I had with the band's songs was it seemed as if the sound wasn't all there. There were points in the song Hang Me High were I felt the band could have used more guitar riffs to stand out more from pounding rhythm section. Also I think that there sound can easily be mistaken for Pantera or Slayer. To me great metal bands find a way to distinguish themselves from other acts.

Bottom line- This is a killer metal band. If you are a fan of Pantera, Slayer, Black Label Society, or metal in general, this is definitely a band you need to check out for yourself. With the right label and producer, these guys can perfect their sound and get them a wider reach to the masses. Methane gives American head-bangers a band that can carry the torch of metal in the future.
